The Tattered Flag

Are we not America!

The Tattered Flag

This past two weeks, my home in the desert experienced intense wind conditions. The Red White and Blue that flies so proudly at the entrance to the property took an extreme beating. Storms come and go and this was no different. Stood at the front gate, the sun set behind me, I took pause to gaze at the tattered flag.

Mom is a Mighty Warrior.

Mothers Day

BY DMK, A SlantedK Production

Life itself is a crazy rollercoaster, and then parenthood begins. Still a rollercoaster, just much more intense, more loops, higher peeks, lower dips and all consuming.

Queen Sue is approaching her 24th Mothers Day. The challenges many, the ride long, however I know, as a mother she is golden. Now a Grandmother the course of nature has not wavered.

The best tip for “new” mothers, don’t wish the years away.

…Can’t wait until she holds her own bottle, can’t wait until she crawls, can’t wait until she walks, or says her first words…

Distraction

We are America!

These times of turmoil and chaos bring to the forefront a gamut of emotion. For each of us it is something different. In my two decades of parenting, one lesson never forgotten, for the child and for myself.

“Distraction.”

Wired the same way, when it gets to be too much, the pain, the emotion, the stress, distraction is a great tool.

Excuse me while I take a bight of my hot pastrami.

Who has had it with speculation, opinion, blame, blah, blah, blah…

I have, so today I will go with some Clint Eastwood style flash fiction, click on “continue”, if you wish.

Awesome Western Short Pt2

Here we go with part 2

Thanks for the great response on part one. Today I reversed the decision to break it into more parts.

"What's that, DMK?"

"Yup, the remainder of the grand tale is on this entry!"

Wanna review Part One?

Let's get right to it!

An Insurrection cont.

Other than a good woman and a cigar, he did not normally get excited over much, but that day was different, Henry was the only known relative he had. So many years with no family made him thick skinned, however, excitement was percolating within.

~*~

The last week of the month crept up and Henry was due at any time. The cigar tasted much better that day, not sure, if he wanted to sleep or just wait the day out. The sun was getting higher and it was the norm to sleep days. It was going to get hot for sure. The whiskey began taking effect, conversation with himself turned to babbling; “better go to sleep before I begin arguing with myself.” A few drinks down, adrenaline long departed, back cracked as he stretched out, “oh, this bed is comfortable.” It did not take long for the snoring to begin...

A Tale from the Life of David Murphy, aka Longhair.

Awesome Western Short

Part One of a tale told around many cattle driver campfires.

David Murphy of "From the Ashes," Coming soon from Solstice Publishing, has had many jobs and brought quick demise to fools stupid enough to point the business end of steel in his direction.

"An Insurrection" is one of many tales.

Please Enjoy.

An Insurrection

“Hey, Longhair, get your ass out there! The drunks are gettin’ restless!”

He got to his feet, outside the office, a very vocal crowd, a busy night at Jake’s Saloon. A quick turn to the right and he opened the door of the office separating him from the front gambling room. Approached the threshold and received a violent greeting, a blistering wooden frame provided by a shotgun blast. Out of line of sight, a patron yelled out. “You sack of shit cheat!” ...

The Lone Ranger and Tonto.

I was a great fan in my youth. Watched every episode, huh, can’t figure out why I think I was born in the wrong century.
So needless to say, the news of the remake got my attention. The trailer is great. Don't worry about finding it.

I put it at the bottom, eh. No jumping ;^)

Wild West Writing

Wild West Writing

What a great place, the mind of the Wild West Writer.
Four years passed while I worked on my first novel. A year of selling the manuscript, another year of publishing, editing, and waiting patiently. Ok, not so patiently.

Carter yelled out. “Hey, Boy! You wanted to be part of this, you count, 3, 2, 1. Johnstone, you shit! On one, we go! On one, you die!”
Johnstone nodded to the boy.
He counted. “3…”
The two men set their feet, shook the hands.
“2…”
Their shoulders faced each other, the stare of death given to each other.
“1…”

Christmas?

Christmas?

In this time of division, political correctness, and commercialism. Is Christmas reduced to Grey Thursday, Black Friday & Cyber Monday?

I do not look to debate separation of Blah, Blah, Blah. I believe in Christ, that I will not deny.

The essence of Christmas is - Hope, Love, Charity.

Women of the Wild West

Women of the Wild West

It is commonplace to hear the tales of gunmen such as Jesse James, Johnny Ringo, Billy the Kid and my newest entry, David Murphy, the main character of the forthcoming book “From the Ashes.”

Shameless plug, I know, it is my blog, eh. LOL.

Less known, yet part of the colorful Wild West are the women. Today I have a few interesting women to share with Ya’ll.

How about that picture of Raquel Welch? That's why it's called a Teaser Image, eh :)

Stopping to Give Thanks

Five Kernels of Corn. Happy Thanksgiving!

"On Thanksgiving I will stop to give thanks that my family is safe and healthy, especially because I realize that, following the tragedies of this year, it is all too real a possibility that they might not have been." Bobby Jindal

In the 30 years that have passed for my wife and me, there are still "firsts" in our life. Today, it is the first time in three decades Queen Sue & Me are alone on this day of Thanks.

Do not feel sorrow, it is nice, slow roasting a pork shoulder, 12 year old scotch whiskey, and some fine Winter Ale. Truth is, there is a small chance Grand-Baby might stop in later.

As I contemplated what to write today I remembered my days leading a most wonderful youth group. Every year we would bring remembrance to; "The Story of the Five Kernels."

Fast Forward Patience

Giving up is not an option.

Fast Forward Patience

One serious annoying item on the list of a writer, is Patience.
A word that is more similar to fingernails on a chalkboard.

“You usually have to wait for that which is worth waiting for.”
Craig Bruce

Your story is a journey, writing is a journey, publishing is a journey, marketing... On and on guys, you can do it. Today I want to share a personal experience I hope can inspire you in your journey.

Veterans Day

Thank You!

Veterans Day

Honoring those who have walked the walk.

"In war, there are no unwounded soldiers." -Jose Narosky

From History.com
“On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.”

Then & Now - Remember When Gas Hit 2$!

Why the crickets now?

This is a political hot button.

However, I work for a living, last year I made less money than 1986.

My problem? Yes.

This year I'm on track to get back, I'm trying. We are all trying.

Then and Now - Competing w/CGI

Be True to Yourself.

By DMK A SlantedK Production

This weekend I watched Smokey & the Bandit 1&2. Did you know there are zero CGI effects in either of those movies?

When they did the jump with that Black Trans Am it actually flew. When Sheriff Buford T Justice chased the Bandit through the roller coaster, they destroyed the actual ride.
